In a major green energy push, the Punjab Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Compressed Biogas (CBG) facility at Samgauli village in Dera Bassi, Mohali. The project has been awarded on a nomination basis to HPCL Renewable and Green Energy (HPRGE), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
Under the project plan, HPRGE will develop and operate the core plant infrastructure across 15 to 20 acres of a 39-acre municipal land parcel. Working closely with the Mohali Municipal Corporation, the plant will treat approximately 300 tonnes of daily segregated wet waste sourced across nine urban local bodies, fortified with 15 to 20 tonnes of cattle dung. In addition to generating clean CBG fuel, the facility will produce eco-friendly organic manure as a secondary output.
